Plants vs Zombies Garlic

I was commissioned to make a PvZ Garlic plush!  He turned out great!  unfortunately I didn’t get a pic of him with some of the other plushies before sending him off to his new home.  But check him out!  He was fun to make :D

A PvZ Half Eaten Wall Nut!

I was commissioned to create a PvZ Half Eaten Wall Nut and this is how he turned out!  He literally is half eaten!  This guy was actually kind of hard to figure out how to create the eaten area.  It turned out a bit bigger than I wanted, but all in all he looks totally eaten and totally sad about it.  Check him out!

I also re-worked my original Wall Nut pattern to make him a bit bigger so he can actually defend against zombies.  The original one I am now going to call the Mini Wall Nut.  I like the new size of the Wall Nuts.  Here are all three next to each other.  The Mini Wall Nut is on the right.

The Dream Eater

My boyfriend, Steve, has been observing me over the past few years as I experiment and pursue my crafty endeavors and has lately been showing interest in wanting to learn how to make plushies.  He started drawing some ideas down on paper and came up with a cute creepy little guy that he wanted to make into a plush.  I of course helped him along the way and showed him how to use my sewing machine and how to create patterns as well!  He had a lot of fun creating his little dude, and I had a lot of fun showing him how to do it!  Here is what he came up with.

Creepy meets cute!  I think he is totally awesome!  He is pretty big too.  Here are a few more pictures of him lurking around.

Haha!  Watch out!

My New Owl!

It has been a while since I posted, but I wanted to share a picture of the owl I received in the Great Owl Crochet Along!  I think he is absolutely adorable!  He is now sitting on my shelf in my work room :)

A nice card from Karla, aka The Itsy Bitsy Spider, came with the owl explaining where my owl came from!  She said he was made by Kathya from Australia!  Thank you Kathya!

I had a lot of fun in the crochet along, I hope to be apart of some more in the future.

Thanks Phil!

I made this Thank you card for my friend, Phil.  He got me an awesome shirt from Threadless that I have wanted forever!  Random drawings with a purpose!

2010 Renegade Craft Fair – Los Angeles

Woo Hoo!  Renedage Craft Fair!

I took a quick trip on my motorcycle up the LA for the Renegade Craft Fair this Saturday!  I had never really been to a craft fair quite like this before and it was really awesome!  It was a bit bigger than I expected, it was super hot, and I got to see lots of really cool stuff.  The best part was the inspiration and motivation I got from it.  I could totally see myself at a fair like that with my own creations. Here are some pics I got from the fair

I also ran into a really nice acquaintance of mine I met through Etsy and Twitter, Jane!  The has her own site over at JanieXY.  I chatted with her for a bit and got to see her totally awesome booth!  You can’t really see her in the picture as there were potential buyers ready to take come some of her adorable plushies, but you can see her little ice cream truck booth where she hands out cute plushes for all!  It was really nice to meet someone else I had known online with their creations at a fair!

Alright.  Comic Con and Renedage craft fair.  Next year.  I will do this.

Comic Con!!

I LOVE Comic Con :D  I think this is my third year going, but this year was absolutely extra special because I was able to start promoting my name as a handmade artist!  I met a ton of really awesome people who had booths there and just got to see a lot of really great stuff.  I took some more general Comic Con pics over at my other blog, but below are some pics that were more tailored to my handmade presence.

As you may have known, it was recently announced that I have been working with Bolt Creative, the creators of Pocket God, and have made some plushies based off of some characters from their iPhone game.  They have been signing posters and things during the con and I decided to stop by to say ‘Hi’ and see my plushies in action in a HUGE public convention.

Wow.

I mean…I know these plushies probably got some attention but…I just cant express how awesome it feels to have something that I created with my own hands displayed proudly for thousands of eyes to see…It really is an awesome experience.   Here are some quick pics I snapped of the booth the Pocket God guys were at with my plushies.   Also, here is a picture of the Zombie Pygmy I made!!

Dave and Allan are the most awesome people ever.  I feel privileged to have them appreciate my work in a way that not only brings a more positive light to their (already awesome) game, but also to my abilities as a handmade artist.  I created a second commision for them and they had them displayed at their booth at Comic Con and even let fans take pictures with them!  So.  Awesome.

A quick shout out to an awesome needle felt artist who was at the con this year, I took a nice picture of the work he had for sale at his booth.  Jackie Huang makes the most amazing needle felt art I have ever seen……..ever.

Here is a pic of most of my Comic Con loot.  I managed to wrangle up some cute prints, wall hangings, sculptures, comics, books, etc.  Check it!

Pocket God Pygmies!!

It has been a long while before I was able to make a post about these awesome guys, but the time has finally come!  Over the past few months I have been working directly with Bolt Creative, the creators of the iPhone game Pocket God, to create some plush Pygmies from their game!  They commissioned me to create some basic Pygmies with various faces, a Pygmy struck by lightning, a Pygmy being eaten by ants, and a Pygmy on fire! They Turned out pretty sweet :D

The guys at Bolt Creative loved the Pygmies so much they commissioned me to make even more!  The second batch turned out even better than the first because I was able to refine the pattern and make it easier to sew together and give it a more professional quality to it. They also had me make a zombie Pygmy!!!  Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of the zombie one (which I personally think is my favorite), but as soon as I have a pic I will post it.

I learned a TON from making these guys and have gained a lot of confidence in my pattern creation for plush toys.  These Pygmies were a real challenge but also a TON of fun to make.

The creators of Pocket God will be displaying these plushies this year at Comic Con and will also be signing posters!  Check out their blog post to find out the times they will be there. Go check them out if you are visiting the Con!  I will probably stop by one day to see them as well :)

Stay tuned into my Etsy shop over the next few months for Pygmies!  I should be creating some for sale soon :)

The Story of Maya and Me

This is a long one folks, but bear with me, it will be totally worth it :)

I have only been making my presence online as a crafter for the lesser part of a year now and  I always hear of amazing stories strewn across the internet of the many positive ways that artists reach out to others through their work.  It can be something huge or even the smallest little thing, but in one way or another it changes the lives of both the creator and the recipient.

I recently had the pleasure to change the life of someone precious in a positive way.   Even if it was something small, it made my heart feel as big and warm as the sun.  Meet Maya…

Maya is a young girl from Belgium.  She has recently been sick from cancer and the treatments that go along with it.  I was contacted by her wonderfully kind father who expressed interest in my Plants vs Zombies plushie work and he told me that one of the things Maya loved to do was play the game Plants Vs. Zombies to help stave away boredom while in her bed.  He expressed interest in purchasing one of my PvZ plushies to give to her as a gift while she was in the hospital.  I very gladly acknowledged the situation and decided to donate a plushie to her as a gift with best wishes as she recovered.  Maya chose the Snow Pea as her favorite.

As I was working on her Snow Pea, I was contacted by Maya’s father once again with wonderful news!  Maya had recovered from her treatment quicker than expected and was allowed to finally go home to her family!  She was really excited to see her little brother again!  When I received this email I was so happy for her and her family.  I can only imagine what they must have gone through and knowing that they were on the path to recovery and happiness again made me feel so good!  Before she left the hospital she took her little toys and spelled out “Merci” on her bed, which means “Thank You” in French, for me.

As much as it would have been heart warming to see her receive her plushie there in the hospital to cheer her up, I am just so thankful she was able to return home!  Now all she had to do was wait patiently for the mailman to bring her a special package!

As I was nearing the completion of the Snow Pea (and an extra special gift to throw in for her as well), Maya’s father asked me to take a few pictures of me making the plushie as I was working on it because Maya was interested in how I made them.  I took a few pics for and sent them to her father.

After a few weeks the package finally arrived in Belgium!  There are no words that can describe how amazing I felt when I saw the pictures that Maya’s father sent to me after they had received their package.  I am going to place the pictures he sent me below, just keep scrolling ♥

We love you Maya!

My Owl Crochet Along

This is the owl I made for the Great Owl Crochet Along hosted by the Itsy Bitsy Spider.  Isn’t he cute??  He was a hoot to make!  I can’t wait to see the owl I get from the swap and I hope that whoever receives this one enjoys it!  I think I will name him Truffles.
